Hey, I’m Gab,
I’m a 43-year-old pickleball addict based in Redwood City, California, playing a few times a week (and yeah… there was a time I was on the court every single day). You’ll usually find me grinding games around the Bay Area.
Pickleball started as “just for fun,” but like most people reading this, it didn’t stay that way for long.
Now it’s part competition, part obsession, and part constant search for better gear, smarter strategy, and fewer dumb mistakes.
I’m not a pro, and I’m not pretending to be one.
I’m the kind of player who:
Everything on PickleballWired comes from that perspective — real play, real opinions, no fluff.
I started out using the JOOLA Perseus Gen 2, then moved to the JOOLA Perseus Gen 3 as I kept playing and figuring out what suited my game best.
Right now, I primarily use the Ronbus Quanta R2.16 .
It gives me the balance I’m looking for — solid control with enough power when I need it. Compared to higher-priced paddles like the JOOLA Perseus line, it hits a really nice value-to-performance sweet spot for my game . It just feels consistent and predictable during play, which matters a lot in competitive games.
I’ve also spent time with the Ronbus R4. It’s a solid paddle, but for my personal preference, it felt a bit heavier and the handle shape (more oval) wasn’t as comfortable for me. I also found it slightly less predictable in my hands.
That said, I didn’t experiment much with adding or adjusting weight, so there’s definitely room to dial it in depending on your setup and play style.

This is my real setup — the stuff I actually bring to the court.
No staged gear, no extras just for content.
I’ll be breaking this down in detail in a dedicated post, including what’s worth it… and what’s not.
There’s a lot of noise in pickleball content right now.
A lot of “top 10” lists that all say the same thing. A lot of reviews that feel… safe.
PickleballWired is different.
I buy the gear I review, and if a brand ever sends me something to test, I will always explicitly disclose it.
If something is great, I’ll say it. If something is overhyped, I’ll say that too.
Outside of playing, I’m also building within the pickleball space — from content to creative projects and gear-focused ideas that support the community.
If you’ve got gear you want reviewed, a court story, or just want to share something interesting happening in your local pickleball scene — feel free to reach out.
See you on the court.
